Boarding bridges in the east wing tested

Today, a so-called ORAT trial run was conducted on the boarding bridges and bus gates in the east wing of KEF Airport’s terminal. The ORAT trial run conducted today involved testing passenger flow and response procedures for boarding buses and aircraft. Four new boarding bridges and two bus gates will be put into operation in March of this year.
Volunteers from Isavia and other companies operating at the airport took on the roles of passengers and went through the departure gates. The goal of the test was, among other things, to ensure that all processes are clear and that everything runs as it’s supposed to. Tests like these are an important part of the ORAT methodology, which has been implemented in the expansion project at Keflavík Airport.
ORAT (Operational Readiness, Activation & Transition) is a method used to ensure that, in projects such as the ones underway at Keflavík Airport, everything is ready by a predetermined deadline. This applies to buildings, various systems and processes, and of course, the staff. Our clients, such as airlines, plan their operations far in advance. Therefore, it is important to involve them and other stakeholders in the projects so that everything is ready on time.
The new east wing will expand the terminal by 30%. The expansion improves facilities for baggage claim in a new arrivals hall, adds four new boarding bridges and two bus gates, and includes a larger dining area and a larger duty-free zone.
