A desktop trial was conducted recently for the new "Mike" taxiway which will be opened this summer.

The test is an important part of the preparation to open the taxiway for traffic. Since implementation is not complete and comprehensive testing with aircraft is difficult to do, this kind of map testing is a good tool to identify unknowns and walk through the various processes with end users. The test is done in a safe environment and gives an early view of what needs to be improved in preparation for opening and sharpens roles and responsibilities.

There are many stakeholders in a project like this, and employees from the control tower, airport services, airlines, safety and occupational health and safety, and infrastructure, and air safety control, among others, took part in the test.

The test was extremely successful and provides an important contribution to the preparation of end users both before the opening of the taxiway and also issues that need to be considered after the opening.

Testing such as this is part of the ORAT process which is an effective process to support the successful implementation of new airport structures and infrastructure. By organizing the tests for the opening of new infrastructure, we ensure that not only the structure itself, be it a building or a roadway, is ready, but also that people, processes, systems and the structure work together and are truly ready.
